I am a federal employee do I have the same rights as private employees?
Return to FAQ VideosTranscript:
Federal employees and private employees both have certain protections against discrimination in the workplace, as well as certain whistle blower anti-discrimination rights as well. However, the remedies and how you seek those rights and protections vary between private employees and Federal employees.
For instance, with Federal employee law, the statute of limitations, the time period that you have to bring those claims, is much shorter than the time that you have as a private employee. Therefore, if you do think that you’re being targeted on the basis of a disability, your gender, your age, or some other sort of protected trait under the law, and you’re a Federal employee, it’s very prudent that you do speak with an employment lawyer right away so that you can know what those rights are, and how you can take advantage of those protections that are provided for you under Federal law.
